Chartered by the Knights of Columbus on February 13, 1898, Council 305 was the first council in the state of Michigan. At that time, it was assigned to the city of Detroit and covered all Catholic men who lived in the city.
In 1920 it had a peak membership of 10,000 members. In the 1930s, the Knights of Columbus allowed councils to be attached to specific parishes. This caused the membership of Council 305 to greatly diminish.
In 2009 the council was assigned to Old St. Mary's.
Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at the parish hall starting at 7:00 pm.

The members of Council 305 would like to thank all the parishioners who participated in acquiring 97 child/youth coats during the campaign "Coats for Kids" conducted in December 2022.
In February, the coats were provided to the Michigan State Police for distribution to needy children in the metro area. The Grand Knight, Andy Assenmacher, is at the right, Financial Secretary, Gerald Gruska, at the left and Lt. Kilpatrick, MSP is third from the right.
