Since the previous Yearly Report given in September 2017, the following physical restorations have been completed or are near completion:
The two sections of the church ceiling, back wall, windows and lighting above the choir loft was completed before Holy Week. There was extensive plastering, painting, gilding, lighting and more. The total cost for this project was $ 104,000.00
The exterior stained-glass project started this past spring. We are taking off the old exterior window covers, repairing the wood frames, painting the frames, repairs to the stained glass and then clear protective covers installed on all 93 windows. This project should be completed by next spring at a cost of $ 448,000.00
The restoration has begun at the Lourdes Grotto. This will be the most extensive restoration of all the grottos. The stained-glass windows will be uncovered, floor space will be expanded, statues will be restored, floor will be repaired and much more. This will be at a cost of approx. $ 70,000.00
The cement steps and porch at the Parish Center entrance has been completed. The rails installed are temporary and the new rails will match the wrought iron fencing that follows around the entire church properties.
The parking lot complete replacement will be completed directly after Homecoming. After some repairs discovered after last winter, there will be a final, smooth top layer added..
Additional historic statues are being restored during the year . There are just a final few additional statues to complete all statue restoration work this new year. We were also fortunate to acquire the two antique angels that frame the high altar in the Sanctuary.
The Knights of Columbus # 305 were moved to their new quarters in the basement of the Parish Center. All our original furniture was returned to us and installed in the new meeting room. The total cost for this was a lot of volunteer labor.
The footings in the church which are under the 10 polished granite pillars (i.e. the pillars that are responsible for the church structure being stable) were found to be very sound and there will only need to be minor work done to ensure future stability. This work will be completed in October.
There were many small projects that were completed during the year to help and maintain our beautiful church and rectory.
