Farewell from Fr. Vincent

My visit to Old St. Mary’s Parish in Detroit has been a lifetime experience; the joyous moments with the nice families, the delicious food and all sorts of entertainment. Never did I feel homesick and I would say it has been recreational and felt like a “homecoming”. Something very remarkable is the idea that my visit has made me more aware of an extended family away from my home parish in Africa.

I would like to thank you all for all your prayers, cards, and many gifts. Many thanks and appreciation goes to the parish priest, Fr. Ed Vilkauskas, for his missionary zeal of invitation and for making my stay comfortable. Thanks so much to many good people and families I met. Though our cultures are very different it has been an enrichment to me and my pastoral ministry. My blessing, prayers, and best wishes to all of you and your families. Let us share much in strengthening our relationship because we have now learned and know each other well and our commitment to Christ and our twining churches.

I have been inspired by your Catholic faith and commitment to our mission support. You will be in my Mass intentions and prayers daily. All the best, God Bless you always.

  1. Visitor says:

Fr. Vincent is a holy priest who seems to enjoy his vocation. We spoke at length about his mission parish and his “Mass in the brush.” The Holy Spirit Fathers are really doing a great job evangelizing the African People.

  2. Parishioner says:

I was at the fundraiser at the Greektown Hotel and had a chance to learn about his misssion parisih. I didn’t know that he use to be a tribal warrior? So the Holy Ghost Fathers must be doing something right in teaching Christiaity.

Welcome...

The Catholic Church is open to everyone — and so is this community forum. You don’t have to be a member of our parish to take part in the discussion or view the community pages. Catholics affectionately refer to Mary as the "Mother of Christians" because God chose her to bring Christ into the world. Just like every good Mother who cares for her children, Mary too points us to Christ; it is through her that we experience the fullness of His love. This community forum is dedicated of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM).
