Welcome

“ Where exclamations are cried out to God as from one great heart: the union of minds, the accord of souls, the bond of charity, the prayers of the priests.”
Old St. Mary’s is the third oldest Roman Catholic Church in Detroit and the first German Church. It was first built on the present site in 1841 by a parish of German Catholic immigrants at a time when the total population of Detroit was not much over 5,000.
Not including labor, the original brick church cost a little over $239. The present church, replacing the earier structure, was constructed in 1884, and styled in Victorian Gothic by Peter Dedericks, a native architect. The beautiful polished columns inside are of solid granite and impossible to replace today.

" I graduated from St. Mary's in 1958, my grandmother was buried from there in 1964, and I had a niece get married there in the 1980's. I last visited in 2007. I love St. Mary's and was sorry I couldn't attend the 175 years celebration. You will be in my prayers."
"I was at the fundraiser for your sister parish at the Greektown Hotel and learned so much about Fr. Vincent and his misssion parish in Tanzania. I didn’t know that he use to be a tribal warrior. The Holy Ghost Fathers must be doing something right in teaching Christiaity."
