Roman Catholic Church holds the largest group of Christians in the world. Dating back to about 30 AD, catholic churches are well spread anywhere in the globe. The pope that lives in the smallest country of the world, the Vatican, is the successor to Peter, the first bishop of Rome.
Roman Catholic Church reaches back to the ancient time and has a large part in history. After the conversion of the Roman Emperor Constantine in AD 312, the Roman Catholic Church was formed.
How the Church is Recognized
Followers of Roman Catholicism must accept the gospel of Jesus as translated by the bishops in union with the pope. The Bible is determined and disseminated by the church as well. Adherents must recognize the church as the “one, holy, catholic and apostolic”, according to the Roman Catholic catechism.
The apostolic succession is a doctrine that is highly valued in Catholic Faith. The pope and bishops of varying degrees each hold the spiritual authority that Jesus has given his apostles. This is the reason why a pope’s decision, with or without the conjunction of other bishops are infallible in matters of faith.
The Holy Trinity
The main teaching of Catholic churches is the Most Holy Trinity. This mystery is the central belief in the Christian faith. There is only a single God that exists in three persons: The Father, Jesus Christ The Son and the Holy Spirit. Other teachings involve the divinity of Jesus, immortality and eternal life of the soul of each human being, being accountable for your decisions and actions, existence of heaven and hell, and resurrection of the dead.
Worship on Sundays
Worship is practiced, once a week every Sabbath day in accordance to the third commandment through the holy mass. There are different types of mass, although they are all celebrated to praise and worship God. During the mass, the priest will perform the holy Eucharist through bread and wine. Through transubstantiation, the bread and wine will miraculously turn into the substance of Christ himself. By taking communion, followers receive union with Jesus.
Prayers come in different methods and adherents are expected to devote time to pray. Private prayer is considered essential and self-renunciation is deemed a necessary part. One more commonly known method of this practice is through the rosary.
In entirety, Roman Catholic Church’s main doctrine is the limitless love of God. Through it, every soul will be saved, even non-Catholics since God’s love is encompassing. Those who will be damned are people who do what they know is wrong.
